We here at First Church of Christ, Scientist, Long Beach welcome you, your family and friends to come worship, learn and grow with us! Located in historic Bixby Knolls, we share our current location with Fourth Church of Christ, Scientist, Long Beach which has been in this location for more than twenty years.
Like all Christian Science churches we are a branch of The Mother Church, The First Church of Christ Scientist in Boston Massachusetts which was founded by Mary Baker Eddy in 1879 to "reinstate primitive Christianity and its lost element of healing." 
Our church in Long Beach began when two students of Christian Science held informal meetings in their homes dating as far back as 1902 prior to building our original edifice at 440 Elm Avenue in 1913. Designed by noted Los Angeles architect Elmer Grey in the Classical Revival-style of architecture, the building is now a registered historic landmark and is one of the oldest surviving churches in the City. It was purchased by the congregation of the First Christian Church in 1989, which had lost its original historic church by eminent domain for the construction of Long Beach Plaza. At that time we moved to One World Trade Center where we remained until late 2009.
